Obituary for Maude Fordyce
Maude Guthrie Fordyce, 100, of Washington, Pa. and formerly of Graysville and Claysville, Pa. died at 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2004 in the Humber Lane Health Care Centre, Washington, Pa.She was born October 12, 1903 in Cameron, W.Va. a daughter of Simon L. and Edna Cunningham Guthrie, and had resided in the Claysville area from 1948 until 2001.Mrs. Fordyce was a life member of the former South Ten Mile Baptist Church in Graysville, Pa.She attended Graysville Elementary School and was 1921 graduate of Richhill Township High School, and earned her teaching certification from Waynesburg College, and later attended and was a 1942 graduate of the Clinical Laboratories at the Graduate Hospital at the University of Pa. in Philadelphia.Mrs. Fordyce was a former teacher in Richhill and Gray Township schools and was last employed as a laboratory technician for several years in various hospitals in Pa. and W.Va. prior to her retirement.She was a member of Washington County Chapter of the D.A.R., Washington County Genealogical Society, Cornerstone Genealogical Society of Waynesburg, and was a charter member of the Washington County Descendants of the First Settlers in 1781.Mrs. Fordyce was also a member and served as pianist for the Evening Star Chapter 187 Order of the Eastern Star in Claysville.She enjoyed collecting antique dishware and genealogical research.In 1924 she married Frank C. Ruth who died March 2, 1939 and in June 1948 she married Forney William Fordyce who died November 28, 1994.Surviving are a sister, Jeanette Wise of Toledo, Ohio; a brother, Kenneth Guthrie of Waynesburg; several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to her husbands are two sisters, Virginia Creighton and Ruth G. Day; a brother, Willis B. Guthrie.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
