Mary Whipkey

Mary M. Whipkey, 89, of Holbrook, Pa. R.D.#1 (Bristoria) died Saturday, August 28, 2004 at 3:20 p.m. in the home of her daughter, Linda Kern in Warren, Ohio after being in failing health for the past year.She was born January 6, 1915 in Richhill Township (Bristoria) a daughter of Jesse Leasure and Mary Frances Hull Poland.Mrs. Whipkey had resided in Richhill Township all her life prior to moving to Ohio, May 30, 2004, and was a 1933 graduate of Richhill High School.She was a member of the Long Run Church of God where she formerly served as secretary-treasurer, Sunday school teacher and was a member of the ladies auxiliary.Mrs. Whipkey was a former member of the W.C.S.C. of Centennial and the Greene County Circuit of the Church of God.She was also a member of the Aleppo Grange 2054 where she formerly served as Lady Assistant Steward for 9 years and served as chaplain, and was a member and former chaplain of Pomona Grange and was a member of the State and National Granges.On October 20, 1934 she married Fred Furman Whipkey who died February 16, 1995.Surviving are two daughters, Linda Kern wife of John R. Kern of Warren, Ohio and Fern Whipkey of Waynesburg; five grandchildren, John Yoders, Jr., Robert and John F. Kern, Larry Whipkey, Jr. and Rhonda Whipkey Montgomery; nine great grandchildren.Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are a son, Larry R. Whipkey, Sr. who died December 17, 2000; a brother, Russell Poland who died in infancy; four sisters, Isa McConnell, Clara Whitlatch, Elizabeth Parry and Helen Chapman.Aleppo Grange 2054 will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Forum Health at Home (Hospice), 8747 Squires Lane, Warren, Ohio 44484.
