Mary Huffman

Mary Ruth Thomas Huffman, 85, of Gilmore Twp. (Pine Bank), Greene Co. Pa. died at 8:05 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2011 in her home, surrounded by her loving family, after being in failing health for the past several years.She was born December 7, 1925 in Gilmore Twp. (Ashtree), a daughter of the late Asa Felix Thomas and Mary Maude Roberts Thomas Shriver, and had been a resident of Hoover's Run are and Pine Bank areas all her life.Mrs. Huffman was a 60 year member of the Pine Bank United Methodist Church.She was known as a great cook and baking "salt rising bread", pitching horseshoes, square dancing, bowling and in her later years, after raising her family, appreciated the companionship of her friends playing bingo.Mrs. Huffman also enjoyed pulling practical jokes and any chance to laugh,loved nature and baby pigs, and was a very proud American fond of her country.She was a member of the former Hoover's Run Grange.Mrs. Huffman received her professional license as a cosmetologist from the former Maison Felix School of Beauty Culture in Pittsburgh in 1945.She was an employee of the former Ross Drug Store and The Lady Florence Beauty Salon both in Waynesburg prior to owning and operating the Mary Ruth Huffman Beauty Shoppe in Pine Bank from 1957 until retiring in 2004 due to ill health.On December 7, 1946 she married Jacob Cecil Huffman who died December 6, 2004.Surviving are a daughter, Tena R. Huffman of Pine Bank; three sons, Barry, husband of Susan Huffman and Curtis Huffman, both of Pine Bank and Rodney, husband of Deborah Huffman of Augusta, GA.; one brother, Billy J. Thomas of Waynesburg; six grandchildren, Lindsay, wife of Brian Brooker, Bethany, wife of Patrick Gantt, Zachary, husband of Tara Huffman, Jay Huffman, husband of Cristina McCabe, Sara, wife of Justin Allen and Molly Huffman; eleven great grandchildren; Grayson, Rinna-Beth, Libby, Rhett and Gentry Cate Brooker, Caleb and Claire Huffman, Walker, Belle and Holland Jane Gantt, Maximus McCabe-Huffman; several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are a daughter in law, Laurinda Cox Huffman; a sister, Grace Thomas Haught; four brothers, Ralph, Dennis (Bert) and Edward Thomas and Earl Lemmon; step father, Jacob (J.L.) Shriver.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the New Freeport V.F.D. or the Wayne Twp. V.F.D.
