Mary E. Curry, 101, formerly of Sycamore, Pa. died at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2014 in the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Waynesburg, Pa. She was born February 10, 1913 in Pleasant Hills (Allegheny County), Pa. a daughter of the late William and Hannah Elizabeth Gibson Phillifent and had been a resident of Center Twp. since 1968. Mrs. Curry was a member and Sunday school teacher at the Jefferson Hills United Presbyterian Church in Clairton, but had attended and taught Sunday school at both the Nineveh and Hopewell United Methodist Churches as long as her health permitted. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, growing flowers and was an avid bird lover, having many birds as pets. On November 24, 1934 she married Ezekiel Gordon Curry who died September 6, 1979. Surviving are four grandchildren, Beverly Grimes, Gordon T. Curry II, Brian Curry and Elizabeth Curry Smith; two great grandchildren, Kara Curry and Ondrea Cecil; her extended family of three former daugthter-in-laws, Thelma Jean (T.J.) Savely of Eastview, Susie Lemley Curry of Center Twp., and Phyllis Wilson Curry of Millcreek, W.Va.; several special nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are a son, Gordon Tevis Curry who died May 18, 2013; a brother, William Phillifent; three sisters, Hilda, Kathrine (Kitty) and Margaret (Marg). Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., the time of services, Friday, November 7, 2014, in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa. with Pastor Cynthia Deter officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell Cemetery, Center Twp. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Jefferson Hills U.P. Church, 716 Gill Hall Rd., Clairton, Pa. 15025 or the Nineveh U.M.C., c/o Dotty Hopkins, 43 Brownscreek Rd., Nineveh, Pa. 15353.
