Martha Mitchell

Martha Booth Mitchell, 80, of Meadville, Pa. and formerly of Rogersville and Houston, Pa. died at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2009 in the Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa. after being in failing health since August. She was born August 2, 1928 in McMechen, W.Va. a daughter of the late Frederick Harold and Lydia Pearl Harn Booth. Mrs. Mitchell had resided in Houston, Pa. for 42 years prior to moving to Meadville in 2000. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Meadville and was a former member of the Rogersville U.M. Church and had attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Meadowlands. Mrs. Mitchell was a graduate and salutatorian of the class of 1947 from the former Center Twp. High School in Rogersville. She was last employed as a seamstress with Ace Reconditioning in Washington, Pa. prior to her retirement in 1993. Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and scenery painting and the time she was able to spend with her family. On August 4, 1946 she married Fred Johnson Mitchell who died December 9, 2008. Surviving are three daughters, Bonna K. Goodnight of Petroleum, W.VA., Mary M., wife of William Sherrod of Meadville and Nancy E., wife of Mark Janosky of Perryburg, Ohio; one son, John W., husband of Donna Mitchell of Pittsburgh; one sister, Vileta, wife of Arthur Fletcher of Inman, S.C.; one brother, Willis H., husband of Lisa Booth of North East, Pa.; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren. Deceased in addition to her husband and parents are a great grandson, Zachery Thomas William who died at the age of 18 months; two brothers, George Adin and Floyd Wayne Booth. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Christian Church of Meadville, 503 N. Main St. Ext., Meadville, Pa. 16335.
