Mabel Louise Tharp

Mabel Louise (Gilbert) Tharp, 81, of Keisterville, PA, formerly of Sycamore, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2017 at home with her husband by her side.

Born December 27, 1935 in Waynesburg, PA, she is the daughter of the late George N. and Nellie (Iams) Gilbert.

A resident of Greene County for 32 years, Mabel graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1954 and attended Penn Commercial Business/Technical School. Mabel worked for AllTel Telephone Company for 36 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Uniontown, PA, where she assisted with Sunday school classes for many years. She enjoyed working in her home and loved planting her flowers every year. Mabel loved to write personalized letters and cards and enjoyed sending them to friends and family. She and her husband loved to travel to places like Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley in West Virginia. She also enjoyed visiting Ohio as well as Amish country in Pennsylvania. Mabel always enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephew and her dog, Sassy.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Thomas Tharp, of Keisterville, PA; two brothers, Jim Gilbert, of Sycamore, PA and Kenneth Gilbert, of Waynesburg, PA; three nieces, Susan Gilbert-Kiger, of Sycamore, PA, Natalie Gilbert, of Waynesburg, PA, and Jennifer (Jason) Black, of Connellsville, PA; one nephew, George L. Gilbert, of Lone Pine, PA; a step-son, Jerry Lee Tharp, of Salem, OH; daughter in law, Joyce Tharp, of Lake Station, IN; two grandchildren, Ryan Tharp and Melanie Dittz; several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her niece, Karen (Gilbert) Knowlson; two nephews, David Edward Gilbert and Mark Allen Gilbert.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday April 6, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC., 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy., Rogersville, PA, 15359. (724) 499-5181. A funeral service will be held Friday April 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dale Redick officiating. Burial will follow at Oakmont Cemetery, Waynesburg, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bible Baptist Church, 1 Evergreen Terrace, Uniontown, PA, 15401.

The family is very grateful for the care and compassion that Mabel received from Heartland Hospice.
