M. Jean Day, 81, of Center Twp., (Claylick) Greene Co. Pa. died unexpectedly at 7:53 p.m., Monday July 13, 2009, in The Washington Hospital following a brief illness.She was born August 23, 1927 in Waynesburg, Pa. a daughter of the late Lawrence Sherman and Margaret Stewart Scott and had resided in Center Twp. all her life.Mrs. Day was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church at Graysville where she was the former Sunday school secretary and was a member of the United Methodist Women, and she had been attending the Rogersville United Methodist Church for the past several years.She was an active member of Harvey's Grange 1444 of Graysville, the Pomona and Pa. State Granges, the Women of the Moose Lodge 888 in Waynesburg, the West Greene Senior Citizens and the Center Twp. V.F.D. Auxiliary.Mrs. Day was a former employee of Krency's Bakery and was last employed by Community Action, both in Waynesburg.On September 14, 1947 she married Harley Lee Day who died February 11, 1978.Surviving are a daughter, Sue Day, wife of Blair Stewart of Graysville; a brother, John, husband of Bonnie Scott of Graysville; a sister, Dorothy Emery of Florida; two grandchildren, Lisa Stewart, wife of Scott Cameron of Clarksburg, MD. and Bryan P. Stewart of Washington; two great grandchildren, J. Hayden and Hunter Jacob Cameron. Deceased in addition to her parents and husband is a brother, Blair L. Scott, who died in infancy; Paul Mathason, with whom she shared her home for several years.Harvey's Grange 1444 will conduct a memorial service in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Thursday. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to West Greene Senior Citizens.
