Rev. Louis A. Sprowls, 77, of Prosperity, Pa. died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, April 3, 2005 in The Washington Hospital after being seriously ill for the past 4 weeks.He was born April 28, 1927 in Claysville, Pa. a son of Herschel Allum and Stella Rose McCombs Sprowls and had resided in Prosperity since 1994.Rev. Sprowls was a 1944 graduate of Morris Twp. High School and attended Penn State University, Washington Jefferson College and West Virginia Bible College prior to graduating from Grace Theological Seminary in Winonoa Lake, Indiana in 1952. He was a member of the Enon Baptist Church where he has served as the interim pastor for the past six months.He served the Baptist ministry from 1952 in Brownsville, Bellwood, East Brady, and New Matamoras, Ohio prior to retiring in 1994.. Following his retirement he has also served as interim pastor at the Bethlehem Baptist Church (Ruff Creek) and Bates Fork Baptist Church (Sycamore). Rev. Sprowls was a member of the American Baptist Ministers Council.He was a member and the current treasurer of the Board of Directors for the Enon Cemetery.Rev. Sprowls was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a Technician Fifth Grade with Headquarters Company 9840 TSU CE and was awarded the Victory Medal and Meritorious Unit Award. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and reading. On July 23, 1949, he married Sara Margaret Burns Sprowls who survives. Also surviving are two sons, David Sprowls of Milheim, Pa., Mark Sprowls of North Ridgeville, Oh.; two daughters, Esther, wife of Thomas Ashbaugh of Phoenixville, Pa. and Ruth Ann Johnson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Adam and Rachel Ashbaugh, Joshua and Megan Sprowls, Benjamin and Jacob Johnson; a twin sister, Louise Hickman of Prosperity, Pa. Deceased are a son and a daughter who both died in infancy.The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Pa., National Processing Center, Post Office Box 7000, Albert Lea, MN. 56007 and a local charity of your choice.
