Lindsey H. (Red) Stewart, 91, of Claysville, Pa. died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare in Washington, Pa.He was born August 4, 1922 in Claysville, Pa. a son of the late Frank F. and Hester E. Grimes Stewart and had resided in the Claysville area all his life.Mr. Stewart was a member of the Claysville United Methodist Church, and was a graduate of the former Claysville High School.He was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Army as a private first class with Company M, 242nd Rainbow Infantry Division in Central Europe, Ardennes and Rhineland. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.Mr. Stewart was employed as a mold maker at the former Hazel Atlas Glass Plant #1 in Washington for 15 years and was last employed as a rural route mail carrier at the Claysville Post Office for 29 years prior to retiring in 1984.He was a life member of the Claysville American Legion Post 639 and a member of the D.A.V. in Washington and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association.On August 2, 1941 he married Grace V. (Jean) Stout who died October 19, 2006.Surviving are two sons, William H., husband of Jane Stewart of Rockford, IL. and James R. (Bob), husband of Joan Stewart of Washington; a daughter, Margaret J. (Peg) Stewart of Claysville; four grandchildren, Debra, Bradley and Kevin Stewart, and Angelia Zullo; five great grandchildren, Makenna and Saige Zullo, Sidney, Tanner and Lauren Stewart; one half-brother, Wade, husband of Louise Stewart of Claysville; three half-sisters, Linda, wife of Art Nemeth of Washington, Cheryl Nemeth and Bonnie, wife of Paul Durilla, both of Claysville; several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to his wife and parents are a grandson, Scott Stewart; a step mother, Leah Miller Stewart; and three brothers, Frank F. Jr., Wayne, and Robert Stewart.
