Lawrence Dinsmore

Lawrence Burns Dinsmore, 98, of Blandon, Pa., and formerly of Richhill and East Finley Twps., died Monday, March 3, 2014 in Keystone Villa in Blandon where he had resided for the past eleven months. He was born December 16, 1915 in Waynesburg, Pa. a son of the late John Mordecai and Goldie Burns Dinsmore. Mr. Dinsmore attended elementary school in Richhill Twp. and was a 1933 graduate of Trinity High School. He was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Merchant Marines as a Lieutenant Commander in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific Theaters of war. Mr. Dinsmore raised registered Angus beef cattle in Richhill Twp. for several years, and operated the first Christmas tree farm in Greene County, and in 1951 he was appointed a rural route mail carrier out of the West Finley Post Office for 27 years prior to retirement in 1978. He had served on the Richhill Twp. Planning Commission and the Richhill Twp. Water Board of Directors. Mr. Dinsmore was a member of the former Harveys Grange 1444, the Graysville Knights of Pythias, the Fort Jackson Sons of the American Revolution, the American Legion Post 945 and the Superstition Mountain Historical Society of Apache Junction, Az. He was married to the late Eldora Barnhart, the late Neysa Elwell and in 1977 he married Betty Cox Barnhart who died in 2002. Surviving are two sons, Doug, husband of Sarah Dinsmore of Hamburg and Ronald, husband of Deanna Barnhart of Medina, Oh.;four daughters, Anita Griesenauer of Safford, Az., Norma, wife of Rich McClelland of Washington, Patricia, wife of Bill Colvin of Dover, De. and Betty, wife of Denny Morrow of Youngwood; 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren. Deceased in addition to his parents and wives are a daughter, Betty Jean McFall; a son, Donald Johnny Barnhart; two grandsons, Randy McFall and Tristan Griesenauer; a brother, Donald T. Dinsmore. At the request of the deceased there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service to be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 in Braddock Cemetery, Graysville, Pa. with Pastor David Lowe officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Enon Baptist Church, c/o Mary Kiger, 333 Enon Church Rd., West Finley, Pa. 15377 or the Harvey-Aleppo Grange, c/o Martha Dinsmore, 474 W. Roy Furman Hwy., Wind Ridge, Pa. 15380. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa.
