Kenneth W. "Red" Tharp, 88, of Waynesburg, Pa., died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 1:00 a.m. in the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, Pa., after being in failing health for the past several years.He was born December 29, 1916 in New Geneva, Pa., a son of Edward and Georgia Garrettson Tharp and had resided in the Rogersville and Waynesburg areas for twenty-three years prior to moving to Salem, Ohio in 1967, where he resided until returning to Greene County in 1999.Mr. Tharp attended the Real Life Assembly of God Church, Salem, Ohio. He was an employee of the former Moore's Bakery in Waynesburg for twenty-three years, and was last employed as a furnace operator by Clark Pulley in Salem, Oh. from 1967 until retiring in 1979. He was a self-taught wood crafter all his life, following his retirement his hobby became a business as long as his health permitted.On February 6, 1942, he married Edna Lucille Conaway Tharp who survives. Also surviving are one son, Stephen, husband of Kim Fitch Tharp of Pulaski, Pa.; five daughters, Connie, wife of Sam Phillips of Waynesburg, Pa., Joan, wife of Gary Brown of Salem, Oh., Loretta Wyatt of Youngstown, Oh., Wanda Tharp of Waynesburg, and Glenda, wife of Donald Whitacre of Chippewa, Pa.; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Orman Tharp of Warren, Oh.Deceased are four brothers, Rex, Elton, Orville, and Harold Tharp; one sister, Regina Hazel. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice Care Inc. PO Box 72, Waynesburg, Pa. 15370.
