Obituary for Kenneth Plants

Kenneth W. Plants, 83, of Claysville, Pa. and formerly of East Finley Twp., died at 8:10 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 in the Canonsburg Hospital, Canonsburg, Pa. after being in failing health for the past several years.He was born September 19, 1929 in East Finley Twp. a son of the late Clyde Swaine Plants, Sr. and Grace Farine Allum Plants and has been a resident of Claysville since 2008.Mr. Plants was a member of the Claysville United Methodist Church, the Claysville American Legion Post 639 and the McGuffey Senior Citizens.He was a 1947 graduate of the former Claysville High School.Mr. Plants was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a corporal in the U.S. Army with Hq H S Co., 23rd AEB, 3rd AD.He was employed by the former Hazel Atlas Glass Factory and McAnallen Brothers Construction, both in Washington and the Wilkie Construction Co. in Claysville, and was last employed as a welder by the former Jessop Steel Corp., in Washington for 37 years, prior to retiring in 1993.Mr. Plants enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, game bird and coon hunting, and listening to country music.On June 14, 1958 he married Shirley Margaret Clutter who survives.Also surviving are a daughter, Rhonda, wife of Nick Fratto of Bridgeville; a son, Todd K. Plants of Wheeling, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Rocco and Sophia Fratto; a sister, Dorothy Stewart of Claysville; several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to his parents are a brother, Clyde S. Plants, Jr. who was killed in action during World War II and Donald Plants; a niece, Donna Plants Parsley.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Claysville American Legion Post 639, 202 Buffalo Rd. N., Washington, Pa 15301 or the Claysville United Methodist Church, 1279 Rt. 40 W, Claysville, PA 15323.
