Obituary for Joshua Duane "Chub" Gilbert

Joshua D. Chub Gilbert, 35, of New Freeport, Pa. died unexpectedly at 10:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 in his home.

He was born September 12, 1980 in Waynesburg, Pa. a son of Harold Duane Shorty and Lori Ann Shea Gilbert of New Freeport, and he had resided in Gilmore Twp. all his life.

Mr. Gilbert was baptized into the Catholic faith.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter, was a skilled woodworker and treasured his role as a grandfather.

Mr. Gilbert was a 1998 graduate of West Greene High School, where he participated in wrestling, football, track and baseball, and would remind his family and friends of his pitching 100 strikeouts in youth baseball.

He was a former employee of Wise Excavating, Accent Remodeling of Frederick, MD., and was employed by Gilbert Ridge General Contracting for several years, and had been employed by Smith Excavating, Inc. of Virginia, in the oil and gas fields since January 2015.

On October 10, 2003 he married Teresa Janell Stoneking who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Kori Danielle Berdine and a son, Douglas Jared Berdine, both at home; a grandson, Hayden Douglas Berdine; a brother, Robert, husband of Jennifer Gilbert of New Freeport; four nieces, Payton Gilbert, Lilly Usher, Abigail and Julia Jones; four nephews, Spencer and Seth Stoneking, Nathan Lee Tedrow, Jr.,; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Deceased are his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Lois Moran Shea; paternal grandparents, Lindsay and Harriett Kimble Gilbert.

Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa. where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015 with Rev. Frances Frazier officiating. Interment will follow in the Gilbert Family Cemetery.
