Joan A. McAnallen, 81, of S. Franklin Twp., died unexpectedly at 6:00 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 while on vacation with her family in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico.She was born March 19, 1929 in Mariana, Pa. a daughter of the late Peter Robert and Anne Ruth "Bubba" Phillips McCardle and had resided in the S. Franklin Twp. area all her adult life.Mrs. McAnallen was a graduate of the former Ellsworth High School and the Washington Hospital School of Nursing and had attended the former Penn Commercial Business College.She was a former member of the Joe Walker P.T.A., and a member of the S. Franklin V.F.D. Auxiliary, and the Claysville American Legion Auxiliary and was a former sewing instructor with the S. Franklin 4-H.Mrs. McAnallen was a former employee of Hood Insurance in Washington and was a volunteer teachers aid with Joe Walker Elementary School for several years.She was an avid bowler with the Pacemakers Bowling League at Rt. 19 Bowling Lanes as long as her health permitted.Mrs. McAnallen was married to the late Robert Stuart McAnallen who died March 3, 2004.Surviving are a daughter, Colleen, wife of Dave Johnson of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Robert, husband of Kathy McAnallen of Prosperity and Pete, husband of Natalie McAnallen of S. Franklin Twp.; six grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson Asti, Chrissie Johnson Meyers, Stacie Johnson Eickholt, Robert S. McAnallen III, Scott McAnallen and Nicole McAnallen Patton; six great grandchildren, Cowan and Emerson Meyers, Caleb and Noah Patton, Emma McAnallen and Julie Eakin; several nieces and nephews including a special niece and caregiver, Kim Kassler. Deceased in addition to her husband and parents are two sisters, Doreen Schneider and Lillian Ferris.
