Jean M. Melvin

Jean Marie Melvin, age 99, of Claysville, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017 while under the care of Breese Personal Care Home, Claysville, PA.

Born February 10, 1918 in Claysville, PA, she is the daughter of the late John L. and Carrie (Jackson) Melvin.

Jean graduated in 1936 from Claysville High School and studied at Penn Commercial Business School. Jean was a devoted member of the Claysville United Methodist Church for 80 years. She retired from the Public Welfare Office in Washington, PA. Jean also was a secretary for many years at the Claysville Borough Office. She was a former member of King’s Daughters and Sons, Claysville B.P.W., Claysville Republican Women and McGuffey Senior Citizens. Jean also enjoyed reading books in her spare time.

She is survived by her close friend and caretaker Cheryl (Bob) Cumer, of Claysville, PA; two cousins, James Hyndman, of Mingo Junction, OH, and Celia Thomas, of Falls Church, VA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother George Melvin.

Friends will be received on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 11 A.M.-1 P.M. at the Claysville United Methodist Church, 1257 US-40, Claysville, PA, 15323. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Rico James Vespa, officiating. Burial will follow at Claysville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Claysville United Methodist Church.
