It is with great sadness the family of Jean Elizabeth (Slater) Carman, age 92, of West Alexander, PA, announce the passing of their beloved sister, aunt and cousin on Thursday, May 25, 2017.
Born September 14, 1924 in West Alexander, PA, she is the daughter of the late Charles and Marion Slater.
She has left behind a large family who loves her dearly including Elsie Carman, of West Alexander, PA, who was like a sister to Jean; her nieces, Trish Moss, Hilary (Christopher) Regan, Joe (Angela) Carman, Michael (Kathy) Carman, Carol (Ralph) Purdy, Lynnelto (Jim) Rue, MaryAnn Bohner, Barb Bohner, Sam Bohner, Chris Bohner, Lynda Skywateher, Susan Chabel, Bob (Sandy) Carman, Jeff (Susie) Carman, Ayla D. (Michael) Quintana, of Albuquerque, NM, Theresa Lynn Kanikaynar, of Albuquerque, NM and Marsha Carol (Randy) Brown, of Milford, PA; great nieces and great nephews, Dr. Ayshea Quintana, of Livermore, CA, Dunnery Sgt. Marc Anthony Quintana, of 29 Palms, CA; Kamdin Kanikaynar, of Scottsdale, AZ, Michael Quintana, Jr., of Albuquerque, NM, Zachary Brown, of Milford, PA; grand-nieces, Violet and Ivy Regan, and many grand-nephews in the area who were blessed to be her closest family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Carman; and sister, Mary Lou (Slater) Kanikaynar; nephew, Mark E. Kanikaynar.
Our Aunt Jean loved her yearly vacation visits to New Mexico to see everyone. We traveled New Mexico extensively and she loved the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta most. She was a well traveled tourist by far. She worked for AAA travel agency for 45 years, and was loved by all her clients, and many in her community. Jean was a devout Presbyterian. She was a wonderful pianist at church, an elder, choir member and active member of the West Alexander Presbyterian Church and Friendship Sunday School Class until she became ill.
Having a wonderful, and fulfilling life, she bravely fought Alzheimer’s disease with grace, dignity, strength and determination which was apparent in her last years. A beautiful soul, and an inspiration to her family. We couldn’t have been more blessed to have had a wonderful sister and aunt in our lives. Jean will live on in all of us. Her laughter resonates with us and memories are etched in our minds. Jean will be forever missed, never forgotten, and will live on in the hearts of her family and the lives she touched. Her pictures on our walls and her smile brightens our days. Until we meet again, her embrace will be comforting.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, from 11a.m.-1p.m. at the West Alexander Presbyterian Church, 303 Main St, West Alexander, PA 15376 where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Fred Soberg, officiating.
