Jay Macdowell

Jay E. MacDowell, 67, of Nineveh (Morris Twp.),Pa., died at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2014 in his home. He was born on November 1, 1946 in McKeesport, Pa., a son of Edward Earl MacDowell and Norine Jasper and had resided in Morris Twp., Greene Co. Pa. the past fifteen years. Mr. MacDowell was a member of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, Waynesburg, Pa. He was also a life member of the D.A.V., a former member of the Viet Nam Veterans (Washington Chapter) Motorcycle Club and the West Greene Area Lions Club. Mr. MacDowell earned his GED, later attended Community College of Allegheny County, and was a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College and earned his Masters degree from University of Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served as a specialist fourth class with the 524th Military Police Company at Fort Shafter, and received a Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. MacDowell and his large frame could barely contain his vibrancy, intelligence, curiosity and kindness, and had worked as a fisherman, a logger, a drummer and educator, and was also employed in construction, was a freelance artist and writer, and enjoyed farming. He was a former deputy sheriff for Greene County, state constable, and a zoning enforcement officer for Morris Twp. Mr. MacDowell was a past track and field coach at West Greene High School where the athletes referred to him as MacDaddy". On October 29, 2000 he married Regina Muzika who survives. Also surviving in addition to his wife and parents are six children, Jason, Benjamin, Curran, Mackenzie, Cecilia and Veronica; four grandchildren, a sister, Patricia Pastories; a step-brother, David Augustine; several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who loved and adored him. A memorial gathering of friends will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa. A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 in St. Ann Roman Catholic Church with Rev. J. Francis Frazer officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
