Janis C. Walker, 66, of Monongahela, Pa. and formerly of Graysville, Pa., died at 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2015 in the Mon Valley Hospital, Monongahela after a courageous battle with cancer since 2014.
She was born on August 11,1948in Waynesburg, Pa., a daughter of the late Hiram Leslie and Dorothy Bernice Cole Shriver and had resided in Graysville for 33 years prior to moving to Monongahela in 2013.
Mrs. Walker was a member of the Washington Street United Methodist Church.
She formerly served as the tax collector for Morris Twp., Greene Co., Pa. for 16 years prior to retiring in 1990 and was a volunteer EMT for the Morris Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. for over 20 years.
Mrs. Walker was a member of the West Virginia Horse and Mule Association and the Appalachian Wagon Train.
She enjoyed knitting, reading, playing bingo, boggle, and solitaire, completing crossword puzzles, horseback riding, camping, and loved spending time with her family.
On September 20, 1968 she married Jerry Walker who survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are three sons, Paul J., husband of Tina Walker of Carmichaels, Chuckie Walker, companion of Dora Ross of Waynesburg, Pa., and Chad R. Walker of Monongahela, Pa.; six grandchildren, Ashley, Caleb, Megan, Isabella, Taylor, and Kolin Walker; a great grandchild, Jaycee Kovatch; a sister, Lisa A., wife of Mike Patterson of Waynesburg; a brother, Edwin L., husband of Rhonda Shriver of Mentor, Oh.; and a half-brother, Lanny, husband of Maria Zack of Los Angeles, Ca.
Friends will be received from 11 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa. Funeral services and interment will be private at the request of the deceased. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a humane society or a cancer charity of your choice. Family and friends may view the obituary and send condolences at www.rushfuneralhomeinc.com.
