James E. Pierce, 89, of New Freeport, Pa. died unexpectedly in his home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2012.He was born November 10, 1922 in Springhill Twp.(Ned), Greene Co. Pa. a son of the late George Dewey and Huldah Kathern Warricks Pierce.Mr. Pierce had resided in Sebring, Ohio for 32 years prior to returning to Greene Co. in 2001.He formerly attended the Alliance Church of God in Alliance, Ohio, the Bristoria Baptist Church and was a member and trustee of the Macedonia Interdenominational Church at Holbrook at the time of his death.Mr. Pierce was an avid guitar player and singer, having played and sang in the churches he attended, and played briefly with the country music duo of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs.He was a former employee of the Pa. Railroad in Garfield, Ohio, the Cameron (W.Va.) Greenhouse, Weirton and Wheeling Steel companies and the Royal China Pottery in Sebring, Ohio, and was last employed in the shipping department of Transue and Williams Steel in Sebring, Ohio for 32 years prior to retiring in 1980.Mr. Pierce was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Local 1622, Alliance, Ohio.He was first married to Rosie Prendergast who died March 3, 2001, and on September 4, 2001 he married Janet Rosalie Hartman Moyers who survives.Also surviving are a daughter, Sandra, companion of Darryl Justice of Sebring, Ohio; two step sons, Marty and Phil Moyers, both of Deep Valley; a granddaughter, Charnell Horton; five step grandchildren,Richard Horton,Amanda and Darryl Justice,Richard and Catherine Moyers; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Frank Pierce, two sisters, Lillie May Yoders and Junie Johnson and a brother, Russell, husband of Sue Pierce all of New Freeport; a sister, Rosa Lee Trump of Cleveland, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to his parents and first wife are three brothers, George, Francis and Charles Pierce; two sisters, Mildred Pierce who died in infancy and Mary Debolt; a step brother, Thomas Lee Pierce.
