Obituary for James McGuffie
James Edison McGuffie, 86, of Largo, Florida and formerly of Greene County and Charleroi, Pa. died at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2004 in the Palm Garden Of Pinellas Nursing Home in Largo, Florida.He was born July 15, 1918 in Greene County (Deep Valley), Pa. a son of James and Nora E. Grimm McGuffie and had resided in the Charleroi area most of his life prior to moving to Florida in 1995.Mr. McGuffie was a 1935 graduate of Mapletown High School and a 1939 graduate of W J College in Washington, Pa.He was employed by the former West Penn Power Company in Washington, Pa. for 36 years where he last held the position of District Sales Manager prior to retiring in 1980.Mr. McGuffie was an avid golfer and was a former member and vice president of the Carroll Township School board and was also a member of the Monessen Masonic Lodge #638 FAM and the Charleroi Elks Lodge #494.On August 5, 1939 he married Mary Elizabeth Kennedy McGuffie who survives.Also surviving are two sons, James T. "Tom" McGuffie and his wife, Lyndy Kapelak McGuffie of Clearwater, Florida, Robert K. McGuffie of Weirton, W.Va; two daughters, Connie McGuffie Edwards of Granbury, Texas and Kathy Logue and her husband Dr. Dennis Logue of Clearwater, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.Mr. McGuffie was the last of 10 children.Chapel services only will be held at Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township, Greene County, Pa. at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2004 with Rev. John Phipps officiating. Family and friends wishing to attend the chapel service are ask to either meet at Rush Funeral Home, Inc, Rogersville, Pa. by 12 noon or at the cemetery chapel by 12:45 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to your local American Cancer Society.
