James F. Decker, Jr., 57, of Graysville, Pa. died Tuesday, October 28, 2008 in the Donnell House, Washington, Pa. after one and one half year battle with a cancer related illness. He was born October 5, 1951 in Newburgh, New York a son of the late James Francis Decker, Sr. and Emily Marie Lupperelli Decker. He had resided in Waynesburg, Pa. and Belgrade, Montana prior to returning to Greene Co. and Richhill Township in 1993. Mr. Decker was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served as a corporal with the U. S. Marine Corps and received a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal with a 1960 Combat Action Ribbon, and a Good Conduct Medal.He was a member of Harvey's Grange #1444 of Graysville, D.A.V. Post 123 and a former member of American Legion Post 330 both of Waynesburg.Mr. Decker was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening as long as his health permitted.He also enjoyed spending time with his constant companion his pet German shepherd "Chance". He graduated as a master gunsmith from Pa. Gunsmith School in Pittsburgh.Mr. Decker was formerly employed by Gentry's Custom Guns in Belgrade, Montana where he had built guns for Ted Turner, Outdoor Life spokesman Jim Zumbo and a former governor of Louisana. He was also former employee at Reeves's Sport Shop of Washington and the Robena and Cumberland Mines of Greene Co. prior to retiring in 1997. On December 11, 1983 he married Denise Maria Denman who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Joseph M. of Georgia, Lance W., husband of Christal of Holly Springs, N. C.; one daughter Ashley, companion of Charles Coulter of Canonsburg, Pa.; one brother, Thomas Decker of Walden, N.Y.; two sisters, Linda Steinard of Orlando, Fla. and Irene Hernandez of Walden, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Charleigh Cadeau Coulter, Wisdom Vaughn and Trinity Leigh Decker. Deceased in addition to his parents is his beloved German shepherd "Jake" who he hopes to meet at the Rainbow Bridge.
