Biography
James J. Crum, 87, of Prosperity, Pa. died at 5:05 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014 in the Homestead Center Nursing Home in Lancaster, Ohio after suffering with Leukemia related health issues Mr. Crum was born October 23, 1927 in Bridgeville, Pa. a son of the late Frederick Park Crum, Sr. and Mildred Luella Lackey Crum and had resided in the Bridgeville area all his life prior to purchasing his farm in Prosperity in 1968. He was a former member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Bridgeville and later transferred his membership to the Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church in Prosperity where he formerly served as a Sunday school teacher, trustee and elder and was also a member of the Claysville American Legion Post 639. Mr. Crum was a 1945 graduate of the former Bridgeville High School, and following his military service, he graduated for Truman University (former Missouri State Teachers College) in Kirksville, Missouri in 1955. He was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Army as a Tech 4 and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Crum was last employed by Celtite and Mobil Oil Corporations prior to his retiring to work his farm and raise his young children, and also enjoyed working with his woodmizer sawmill. He also enjoyed raising horses, hunting, and square dancing as long as his health permitted and served on the Morris Twp., (Washington County) Planning Committee. On June 5, 1965 he married Judith Lynn Burson who died September 26, 1976. Surviving are a son, David, husband of Michele Crum of Lancaster, Ohio; a daughter, Janet Crum at home; two grandchildren, Rachel and John David Crum; two sisters-in-law, Betty Stanley of Niles, Ohio and Lois Crum Boley of Houston, Texas; two brothers-in-law, Ed Schneider of Bridgeville and Dick, husband of Sybil Burson of Goleta, CA.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Deceased in addition to his parents and his wife are a brother, Frederick P. Crum, Jr.; a sister, Eileen Schneider; two nephews, Jim and Tommy Crum. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church in Prosperity, Pa. where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 4, 2014 with Pastor Larry Deemer officiating. Interment will follow in the Prosperity Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by representatives of the U.S. Army and the Claysville American Legion Post 639. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church, 25 Church Lane, Prosperity, Pa. 15329. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa.
