Jacob C. Huffman, 87, of Pine Bank, Greene County, Pa. died Monday, December 6, 2004 in his home after being in failing health for the past several years. He was born September 26, 1917 in Gilmore Twp. (Pine Bank), Greene Co., Pa. a son of Brady Ray and Ida Ellen Bennington Huffman and had resided in Pine Bank all his life. Mr. Huffman was a member of the Pine Bank United Methodist Church since 1945 where he formerly served as a trustee. Mr. Huffman enjoyed gardening, and raising stock on his farm. He was an avid reader and baseball enthusiast and was co-manager of the Pine Bank Men's sandlot baseball team in the early 1950's.He was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Army as a Sergeant with Co. A, 893rd Tank Destroyer Battalion in Normandy, the Rhineland, Central Europe, Northern France, and the Ardennes. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Services Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars.He was formerly employed by Jim Peterman at the Pine Bank Store and was later employed as a rural letter carrier in the Pine Bank and Jefferson areas for 35 years prior to retiring in 1981. On December 7, 1946 he married Mary Ruth Thomas Huffman who survives.Also surviving are three sons, Barry T., husband of Susan Williamson Huffman of Pine Bank, Rodney S. Huffman of Augusta, Ga. and Master Sergeant Curtis B., husband of Serap Canogullari Huffman of Thule, Greenland; one daughter, Tena R. Huffman of Morgantown, WV.; six grandchildren, Lindsay Brooker, Bethany Gantt, Zack, Jay, Sara and Molly Huffman; one great grandchild, Grayson Harrington Brooker; one sister, Katherine, wife of Raymond Santee of Waynesburg, Pa., Deceased in addition to his parents are one sister, Eva Patterson, two brothers, Keith and Ralph Huffman, one daughter in law, Laurinda Cox Huffman.Graveside military rites are under the direction of The American Legion Post 330, V.F.W. Post 4793 and the D.A.V. Post 123, all of Waynesburg.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
