J. Cecil Cummins, 91, of Jackson Township (Pine Bank), Greene County, Pa. died at 2:15 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2003 in his home after being in failing health for the past six months.He was born in Gilmore Township, Greene County, Pa. a son of Inghram R. and Nettie Kughn Cummins and has resided in Jackson Township for over 50 years.Mr. Cummins was Protestant.He was a 1930 graduate of Aleppo High School and a 1934 graduate of Waynesburg College.Mr. Cummins was employed as an elementary and high school teacher by what is now the West Greene School District for 41 years, having first taught in one-room schools in Jollytown, Garrison, Morris and Pethel and Aleppo High School before moving to West Greene High School where he taught math and science prior to retiring in 1971.Mr. Cummins was also a self employed farmer, raising beef cattle and sheep, and was an avid bird watcher.He was a veteran of World War II where he served as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 7th Major Port, serving in Northern Ireland, England, France, Scotland, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars.On June 10, 1948 he married Evelyn Rice Cummins who died October 26, 1980.Surviving are one niece, two nephews, three great nephews and two great great nephews.Mr. Cummins was the last of his immediate family.Graveside military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 330, V.F.W. Post 4793 and the D.A.V. Post 123 all of Waynesburg, Pa.
