Biography
Isabell Rutan Pettit, 91, of Holbrook, Pa. died unexpectedly at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 in the Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg. Mrs. Pettit was born March 5, 1923 in Morris Twp., Greene County, Pa. a daughter of the late Harry Melvin and Nellie Hazel Miller Rutan and had been a resident of Center Twp. since 1944. She was a member of the Maranantha Baptist Church. Mrs. Pettit enjoyed needlepoint and assisted he late husband in farming. On March 15, 1941 she married James Hartley Pettit who died April 3, 1989. Surviving are a daughter, Carol June, wife of James Strope of Lake Station, IN.; four sons, Floyd W. (Bill), husband of Nellie Pettit, D. Richard, husband of Delores Pettit, James R., (Butch), husband of Eva Jean Pettit and Jerry Lee, husband of Linda Pettit all of Holbrook; 17 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren and 21 great great grandchildren; a sister, Irene, wife of Jack Morris of Holbrook; a brother, Richard Rutan of Waynesburg; several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are four grandchildren; a great grandchild; eight brothers, James, Ellsworth, Harry, Thomas, John, Hershel, Carl and Wilbur Rutan; two sisters, Frances Anderson and Margaret Toland. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa. where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014 with Rev. Vernon K. Berdine officiating. Interment will follow in Rosemont Cemetery, Rogersville, Pa.
