Ira F. Mayhle, 85, of Waynesburg, Pa. and formerly of Richhill Twp. (Ackley Creek) died at 3:10 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 in the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home in Waynesburg after being in failing health for the past two years. He was born July 12, 1923 in Thornton, W.Va. a son of Miree "Ree" and Viola Newman Mayhle and had resided in Richhill Twp. (Ackley Creek) from 1970 and until moving to Waynesburg in 1992. Mr. Mayhle was a member of the First Church of The Nazarene in Waynesburg where he was a former member of the Board of Directors and was a member of the church dartball team.He was also a former member of the Board of Directors of Braddock Cemetery. Mr. Mayhle was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Army as a Private with Co H, 508th P I R in Normandy, Rhineland, Ardenes and Central Europe. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal, EAME Theater Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a former employee of Sears Roebuck in Jersey City, N. J. and was employed as a shuttle care operator by Nemacolin Mine for 20 years and last held the same position with the Massey Coal Mine-Vesta 5 in Fredricktown for 12 years prior to retiring in 1983. Mr. Mayhle enjoyed playing the harmonica and listening to accordion music. On January 25, 1947 he married Frances Louzetta Amos who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jerry L., husband of Sharon Mayhle of Waynesburg and James F., husband of Darla Mayhle of Motsville, N. C.; 4 daughters, Viola M., wife of Don Shumaker and Ruth Ann, wife of Richard Hegel all of Jersey City, N. J., Gloria D. Fritchman of Pittsburgh,. and Patricia, wife of Dwight Purdy of Marion, IN.; one sister, Rosetta, wife of James Studabaker of Charleston, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren. Deceased are three brothers, French, Harter and Dwight Mayhle; two sisters, Allethia Mayhle and Lillian Whalen. The familly suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 115 Deerfield Lane, Waynesburg, Pa. 15370
