Hubert D. (Butch) Carter, 67, of Wind Ridge, Pa. died at 3:17 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 in his home of a cancer related illness that was first detected in 2006.He was born October 31, 1944 in Waynesburg, Pa. a son of the late Dorse Allen and Thelma Waneda Riggs Carter.Mr. Carter had resided in Bristoria, Graysville and Wind Ridge areas all his life.He was a member and trustee of the Ryerson South Wheeling Baptist Church at Wind Ridge.Mr. Carter was also a member of the United Mine Workers, United Steel Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.He enjoyed his church family, hunting, camping, mud bogs, demolition derby's, built his own dune buggy and enjoyed listening to blue grass music.Mr. Carter was a fourteen year veteran of the U. S. Army National Guard, where he served as a sergeant with Co C 2nd Bn 110th Infantry in Waynesburg.He was a former employee of Penn Line/ Forest in Scotdale, Central Cambria Drilling in Cambria Co., R G Johnson in Washington and was last employed as an electrician and mechanic with United Stainless Alloy Products in Bridgeville prior to retiring in 1998, and since retiring he and his wife have been employed by Southminster Presbyterian Church, of Mt. Lebanon as the caretakers of the church property known as "Windy Ridge Camp".On June 14, 1966 he married Alberta Marie Belford who survives.Also surviving are four daughters, Diana Lynn, wife of John Richardson and Shelly Ann, wife of Philip Richardson both of Holbrook, Brandy Waneda, wife of Charles Tuttle of Wind Ridge and Jennifer Marie, wife of Brad Burns of Waynesburg; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; three sisters, Joy, wife of Jr. Anderson and Judy L., wife of David Beresford both of Cameron and Barbara Herring of Weirton,; several nieces and nephews.Military rites will be accorded at the church by representatives of the U.S. Army and the American Legion Post 330, VFW Post 4793 and D.A.V. Post 123 all of Waynesburg.
