Herman Kerns

Herman L. "Bush" Kerns, 95, of West Alexander, Pa. died at 8:55 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 2004 in The Washington Hospital, Washington, Pa.He was born July 15, 1909 in Buffalo Twp. a son of Reese and Cora Hewitt Kerns. He lived all his life in the West Finley and West Alexander areas.As a very young boy, he learned the trade of a timberman, with his father at his sawmill. He worked as a coal miner and as a heavy equipment operator in construction, but then returned to what he loved most, the sawmill, and worked at that until his retirement.He was an active member of the West Alexander United Methodist Church, for over seventy years, where he held many offices. On July 29, 1927 in Cadiz, Oh. he married Georgie Bernice Tustin Kerns, who died on July 17, 1999.Surviving are one daughter, Frances Elizabeth, wife of Frank Garrison of West Alexander; and two sons, Herman J., husband of Patty McAdoo Kerns of West Alexander, Paul Lavern Kerns of Brookville, Pa.; twelve grandchildren, Lucinda, Randall, Brenda, Barbara, Joan, Maria, Julie, Jane, Paul Kerns Jr., Debra Kerns, wife of Mike Czulewicz, Kim Garrison, wife of Jim McAnany; Jerry Garrison husband of Frankie Beatty, and Pam Garrison, wife of Randy Wolfe and, twenty-six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.He was the last of nine children, three sisters; Goldie Black, Blanche Lohr, Grace McKluskey, three brothers; Reese, Daniel, Gaylord, Frank Kerns and one brother who died in infancy; one grandson, Richard Kevin Garrison, and one great grandchild. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the West Alexander U. M. Church 162 Main Street, POB 302 West Alexander, Pa. 15376 or the West Alexander Volunteer Fire Department.
