Harold S. Moninger

Harold S. Moninger, 91, of New Freeport, Pa. died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 in the Golden Living Center, Waynesburg, Pa., following a brief illness.

He was born October 4, 1924 in New Freeport a son of the late Russell Harrison and Mary Eva Smith Moninger and had resided in Cresson, Pa. from 1965 until returning to New Freeport in 1981.

Mr. Moninger was a member of the former New Freeport Baptist Church where had served as a vice moderator and vice Sunday school superintendent and was a 1943 graduate of the former Center Twp. High School in Rogersville.

He enjoyed mowing his yard and attending to his property and bowling, as long as his health permitted, and also enjoyed antique automobiles, in particular his 1931 Dodge and 1955 Studebaker.

Mr. Moninger was an employee of the former Charles Bissett Oil and Gas Company and Penn D.O.T., and was last employed as a compressor station operator for Texas Eastern Gas Company at the Lilly Station for 24 years prior to retiring in 1985.

He was first married to Irene Rose Drummond who died July 17, 1959, and on December 30, 1961 he married Anna Virginia Ginny Drummond Berdine who died October 30, 1985.

Surviving are two sons, Harold S. Smitty Moninger, II of East Freedom and Martin Marty, husband of Diana Moninger of New Freeport; a daughter, Patricia Pam Conner of Severn, MD.; a step-daughter, Dora Lee, wife of Gary Huffman of Lima, Ohio; a step-son, Vernon K. Kay, husband of Susan Berdine of Holbrook; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Moninger of Frankfort, KY.; several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his parents and wives are a brother, Charles C. Moninger; a sister, Thelma Watson; a step-son, George E. Berdine; a step-daughter, Ella Bobbie Ross; a step-grandson, Brent Ross.

At the request of the deceased there will be no public visitation or funeral service. A public memorial service will be held and announced at a later date.
