H. Kermit Jarvis, 87, of Wind Ridge, Pa. died at 6:00 a.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013 in The Washington Hospital, Washington, Pa. after being in failing health for the past several years.He was born February 17, 1926 in Jeffery, W.Va. a son of the late Howard and Winnie Massey Jarvis and had resided in the Rogersville and Wind Ridge areas since 1958.Mr. Jarvis was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church at Graysville, Pa.He was a 1943 graduate of the Gassaway (W.Va.) High School.Mr. Jarvis was a veteran of World War II where he served as a corporal with the U.S. Army Air Force 2532nd Base Unit at Randolph (Texas) Field, where he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the World War II Victory and Good Conduct Medals.He and his late wife Maggie, co-owned and operated the former Jarvis Lunch in Rogersville from 1963 until 1968, and he was employed as a well tender by the former Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. at the former Majorsville station for over 30 years prior to retiring in 1990.Mr. Jarvis was a member of the American Legion Post 330 in Waynesburg and the former Columbia Gas Quarter Century Club.He was nicknamed "the guitarman" because of his love of playing the guitar and tuned pianos in the area as long as his health permitted, and also enjoyed fishing and working in his woodshop.On July 5, 1945 he married Mary Margaret "Maggie" Mullins who died August 22, 1991, and on September 5, 1992 he married Carolyn Marie Malone who survives.Also surviving are three sons, Robert L., husband of Sharon Jarvis of Indiana, Pa., James H., husband of Jeanie Jarvis of Claysville and Donald W., husband of Connie Jarvis of Rogersville; two step-children, Major William, husband of Robin Scritchfield of Fort Bragg, N.C. and Dorothy, wife of Chris Halford of Jeffersonville, IN.; five grandchildren, Robbie, Michael and Brad Jarvis, Brenda Jarvis Batis and Jamie Jarvis Gentile; six step-grandchildren, Lee, Sara, Katie and Kristie Scritchfield, Dakota and Noah Riley; four great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to his parents and first wife are two brothers, Keith and Kenneth Jarvis; three sisters, Velma Hicks, Audrey Cantley and Delores Cozad; a step-daughter, Brenda Farabee; a step-granddaughter, Melissa Farabee.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
