Gertrude Lucille Tharp King, 84, of Waynesburg, Pa. died at 1:40 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2006 in the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home after being ill with ovarian and pancreatic cancer for the past year and a half. She was born September 12, 1921 in Waynesburg, Pa. a daughter of Perry Lee and Pricilla Jane "Jennie" Phillips Tharp and had resided in Wayne Twp. for several years and had been a resident of Greene County most of her life. Mrs. King was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in East View. She was an employee of the former Greenway Shirt factory in Waynesburg and was last employed by the former Greene County Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide for several years prior to retiring in 1984. Following her retirement, she was a self-employed homecare person as long as her health permitted. .Mrs. King enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sewing, quilting and crochetting.She was formerly married to the late Robert Wesley King.Surviving are three daughters, Dawna, wife of Clarence Evans of Brave, Pa., Carol D., wife of Eric Raineri of Washington, Pa., Merle Ann, wife of Ronald Whipkey of Holbrook, Pa.; two sons, Robert Wayne, husband of Corla King of Waynesburg and Richard M., husband of Belinda King of Wind Ridge, Pa.; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, one sister, Jean, wife of Francis Whitlatch of Aliquippa, Pa.; three brothers, Wayne, husband of Donna Tharp of Monaca, Pa., James H. Tharp of Waynesburg and Perry Arthur Tharp of Monaca, Pa.Deceased in addition to her former husband are one daughter, Sara Lee King King; one great grandson, Shane King; one sister, Olive Galloway; three brothers, Samuel, Thomas and Ralph Tharp.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital (Gifts to Hospice Care) 155 Wilson Ave. Washington, Pa. 15301.
