Obituary for Gertrude Elizabeth Gary

Gertrude E. Gary, 87, formerly of Deep Valley and New Freeport, Pa. died at 6:55 a.m., Friday, January 22, 2016 in the Canonsburg General Hospital, Canonsburg, Pa. after being in failing health for the past nine years.
She was born April 5, 1928 in Wetzel County (Boardtree) W.Va., a daughter of the late John Nelson and Gertrude Mary Pendergast Johnson and had resided in Greene County most of her life.
Mrs. Gary was a member of the New Freeport Church of Christ.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, needlepoint and canning as long as her health permitted.
Mrs. Gary was accomplished guitar player, who in her early years was offered a chance to play at the Wheeling Jamboree in Wheeling, W.Va. and declined to raise her family..
She was self-employed most of her life in caring for the area elderly and enjoyed her time with family and grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter, Janie L. Gilbert of Claysville; a son Howard Junior, husband of Kathleen Pearson of Washington; three grandchildren, Tammy Morris, Jodi Linderman and Joseph Pearson; four great grandchildren, Summer, Tabatha, and Scott Morris, Brook Pearson; several nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to her parents are her husband, Alpheus Pearson; three sisters, Nancy Porter, Anna May Johnson and Mildred Rhome; three brothers, Robert and Thomas Lee Johnson and Johnny Johnson who died in infancy.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2016, in the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa., with Evangelist David Deagel and Elder Darrel Thomas assisting. Interment will follow in Centennial Cemetery.
