Obituary for George Shook Sr

George E. Shook, Sr., 76, of West Finley (Burnsville), Pa. died at 5:45 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 in the Washington Hospital, Washington, Pa. Mr. Shook had been in failing health for the past several years but his death was unexpected.He was born June 28, 1932 in Wheeling, W.Va. a son of the late Walter Asbury and Bernice R. Lofton Shook and had been a resident of West Finley (Burnsville) since 1963.Mr. Shook was a member of the Windy Gap Presbyterian Church at West Finely.He was veteran of the Korean War where he served as a corporal with the U.S. Army.Mr. Shook was a former member of the West Finley V.F.D. and held a membership in the Teamsters Union 697 of Wheeling.He was employed as an equipment operator on the construction of the Wheeling Tunnels, and a former truck driver with Carnation Milk Co., United Dairy and the former McWreath Dairy in Washington, Pa., and was last employed as an independent trucker from 1972 and until retiring in March 2007.Mr. Shook enjoyed deer hunting and repairing heavy equipment, and automobile maintenance.On April 27, 1962 he married Mary Jane Welling who survives.Also surviving are four sons, Walter E. Shook of Wheeling, William L. Shook of Toledo, Ohio, George (Ed) Shook, Jr. husband of Mary L. Shook and Frank, husband of Candy Shook both of West Finley; two daughters, Margaret, wife of Alex Hutchison of Wheeling and Bernice, wife of James Devenney of Rogersville; one sister, Ethel Morgan of Triadelphia, W.Va.; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren.Deceased in addition to his parents are a brother, William W. Shook; a sister, Catherine Stobart.Graveside military rites will be accorded by representatives of the U.S. Army and the Claysville American Legion Post 639.
