George E. Knox, 70, of Claysville, Pa. died at 10:19 a.m. Sunday, July 30, 2006 in The Washington Hospital, Washington, Pa. after battling cancer for the past six months. He was born June 10, 1936 in Washington, Pa. a son of Dorothy Belle Post Knox of Washington, Pa. and the late Clyde Monroe Knox and had resided in the Claysville area all of his life.Mr. Knox was a 1954 graduate of the former Claysville High School and a member of Claysville Christian Church where he was currently serving as an elder, trustee, church custodian and a member of the church choir.He was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps where he served as a Lance Corporal (E3) with the U.S. Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Va.Mr. Knox was a former employee of Suwak Trucking, Magraw Edison and Wagner Tire of McDonald, Pa. He was last employed as the Auto Center Manager at Sears Auto in Washington, Pa. for 22 years prior to retiring in 1991. He enjoyed his hobbies of woodworking, restoring antique cars and auto mechanics.On March 28, 1959, he married Mary Snyder Knox who survives. Surviving in addition to his mother and wife are three daughters, Debra, wife of Fred Group of Washington, Pa., Diane, wife of William Zoeller III of Claysville, Pa. and Eva Jo, wife of Ray Shingle of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; one brother, Charles, husband of Vickie Knox of Washington, Pa.; two sisters, Frances, wife of Sonny Morehead of Claysville, Pa. and Cindy, wife of Thomas Munnell of Aurora, Co.; nine grandchildren, Rae Lyn Group McMillion, Ryan and Reva Group, Edward, David and William Zoeller IV, Alex, Jacob and Steffani Shingle. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Claysville Christian Church, POB 726, 128 Church St., Claysville, Pa. 15323.
