Gene Albert Niethamer

Gene Albert Niethamer, age 84, of Holbrook, formerly of Monroeville, died peacefully in his beloved country home on Thursday, August 18th, 2022.

He was born the son of Louise and Harvey Niethamer on September 30, 1937 in Erie.

Gene graduated from Erie Academy High School in 1955 and continued his education at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. He graduated with a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering in 1959. Gene completed basic training in the Army as a member of the Critical Skills Program at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He became a professional engineer in 1966. Gene worked for U.S. Steel in Quality Production and Engineering for 36 years and retired in 1995.

He was married for 47 years to Marilyn Humble Niethamer until her passing in January 2013. They toured Israel, Italy, Egypt, Mexico, Bahamas, Bermuda, and many places in the United States. Gene also traveled and hunted with the crew; Bob, Larry, and Ed to Wyoming, Texas, Rhode Island, and North and South Carolina. Gene enjoyed his farm in Greene County, his hunting camp, and the summer home in Holbrook.

Gene is survived by his three daughters, Karin, wife of Rob Brunelle, Ann McDevitt, and Janet Niethamer, and his five grandchildren Eric McDevitt, Tanner Brunelle, Nathan Brunelle, Regan McDevitt, Zach Brunelle and two great grandchildren, Parker and Wesley, the two sons of his oldest grandson, Eric, and his wife Lauren.

Everyone who knew Gene loved him. Gene will be remembered for his genuine personality, wit, and sense of humor. He will be dearly missed.
