Gary R. Strauss, 70, also known as the “Captain” in the Columbus Ohio music community, passed away Thursday, January 9th, 2020 in Columbus Ohio.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ruth Strauss, and survived by his first cousin Jennifer Buchanan.
Gary was lucky enough to play the drums for local favorites such as Willie Phoenix, The Alligators, 3-D, Dino and the Deadbeats, Mark Haines and the Remains, Eric Gnezda, Hot Damn, Holliday Parker Band, The Dan Green Band and others. He also opened for national acts KISS, the English band IF, Roger McGuinn, Average White Band, The Greg Kihn Band, Dixie Dregs, Humble Pie, & Donnie Iris.
Gary remarked that “he hoped he knew where the downbeat was, see ya!”
A memorial service will be held June 9th at 4pm at Claysville Cemetery, Claysville, PA
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
