G. Earl "Herb" Cox, 77, of Houston, Pa. died unexpectedly at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012 in his home.He was born October 28, 1934 in Chartiers (Arden) Twp., Washington County, Pa. a son of the late William McKinley and Annie Schievenin Cox and had resided in the Chartiers Twp. area all his life.Mr. Cox was a 1952 graduate of the former Chartiers Twp. High School in Houston.He was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as an FN (E-3) aboard the USS WASP during the Cuban Missal Crisis.Mr. Cox was a former member and officer of the Arden Athletic Club where he was an outstanding soccer player and also a member of the club dart ball team for many years. He also coached the traveling soccer teams in the Canonsburg and Houston areas for several years.He was a life member with 41 years of continuous membership at the Golf Club of Washington where he started as a caddy as a young man, and enjoyed playing with the "over the hill gang" at the club.Mr. Cox was also a member of the Washington Elks Lodge, the Canonsburg White Eagles, the Houston American Legion Post 902, a member of the Fraternal Order of the Bears Club in Meadowlands (which is the last of its kind in the U.S.).He enjoyed being out in the sun, family vacations to Cancun, and was an avid Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan, and treasured his time with his family and grandchildren.Mr. Cox was a former employee of the RCA plant in Meadowlands and was last employed as an oiler by McGraw-Edison (Cooper Industries) in Canonsburg where he retired in 1996 after 31 years of service.On November 21, 1959 he married Dorothy Jean Armani who survives.Also surviving is a daughter, Melanie, wife of Douglas C. Rush of Houston; two grandchildren, Kyle D. and Lauren R. Rush; a sister, Catherine (Winnie), wife of Lucky Korowicki of Washington; several cousins, nieces and nephews.The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Rush Memorial Fund, Attn: Amy Sonson, 319 Washington Rd., Washington, Pa 15301-2701, Arrangements are under the direction of the Rush Funeral Home, Inc.
