Frederick Charles Meinzer, Jr., passed away on November 23, 2017. He was born on February 15, 1933, to Frederick Charles Meinzer, Sr., and Hazel Hull Meinzer. He was one of eight siblings. From an early age, his family played an important role is his life.
He served four years in the Air Force from 1953-1957. After his four years of service, he worked for the United States Post Office for the rest of his career. He was a member of the Claysville American Legion Post 639.
Fred married Elizabeth Huff Meinzer in 1959. Together he and Betty shared nine children, and he loved being a father. Betty passed away in 1977.
Fred enjoyed travel and made frequent trips to Florida to visit family. He even made a seven-day rafting trip down the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon at age 73. Most of all, he delighted in his family as they continued to expand.
Fred married Carolyn Kay McKissick Moore in 1991 and they shared four more children. Fred and Kay enjoyed 26 years of marriage, spending time swinging on the porch, holding hands, and appreciating the world around them. Together their legacy of love and care for family have extended into four generations. As of this writing, they share 31 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, November 26, from 3-9pm at the Claysville United Methodist Church at 1279 Route 40W, Claysville, PA 15323. Family and friends are encouraged to attend a service of celebration of life and resurrection, which will be held at the Claysville United Methodist Church at 10am on Monday, November 27. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Fred’s honor to either the Claysville Methodist Church, Windy Gap Evangelical Presbyterian Church, or West Finley VFD.
