Frances Hoge Stewart, 88, of West Alexander, Pa., our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother sister, and friend passed away from complications of colon cancer at 4:50 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in her home.She was born September 16, 1921, in West Alexander, Pa. a daughter of the late Morgan Tilton and Flora Mae Booth Hoge and grew up on their small farm, the oldest of six siblings.Mrs. Stewart was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints of Washington, Pa.She was a an excellent student, and a 1939 graduate of West Alexander High School and studied chemistry at Waynesburg (College) University, graduating in 1943, and earned an MA in Library Science from the University of Denver in 1971.Mrs. Stewart met the love of her life while a student at Waynesburg (College) University, and on September 18, 1943 she married Walter Alan Stewart, who died October 6, 1955.She was a woman ahead of her time who aspired to a career in science in addition to raising a family. Mrs. Stewart worked as a radiographer and chemist at Wright Aeronautical Corporation in Cincinnati, Ohio, a chemist at Adolph Coors Company in Golden Colorado, and an analytical chemist at the Colorado School of Mines Research Institute, while there she developed a great interest in photography, which she was able to use both professionally and for her own and her family's enjoyment and was a former librarian at Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh, Pa. and was last employed as the librarian at West Liberty State College for 15 years prior to retiring in 1986.She was touched by tragedy in her young adult life, losing her husband and a daughter, Laura Elizabeth Stewart to accidents within the space of eight years. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara, wife of Randy Wolf of Greeley, CO. and Linda, wife of David Aagard of Draper, Utah; six grandchildren, Christina, wife of Eric Johnson, Alan, husband of Kristin Aagard, Tiffany, wife of JR Child, Heather Aagard, Wade Wolf and Adrienne, wife of Ron Lucas; eight great grandchildren, Megan, Ethan, and Aidan Johnson, Ashley and Sophie Aagard, Logan Child, Nathan and Madison Lucas; three brothers, Wayne,husband of Louise Hoge and Donald, husband of Anne Hoge both of West Alexander and Carl, husband of Ann Hoge of Pleasant Hills, Pa.; a sister, Judy, wife of Phil Daly of West Alexander; and many cousins, nieces and nephews Deceased in addition to her parents, husband and daughter is a brother, James Morgan Hoge. The family wishes to thank Medi Home Hospice Care for their kind and thoughtful service at the end, they made a painful passage less so.
