Obituary for Ferne McKissick

Ferne McKissick, 91, of Claysville, Pa. died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2004 in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling, W. Va. after being seriously ill for the past month.She was born September 2, 1912 in Morris Township (Time), Greene County, Pa. a daughter of Harry Stephen and Dora May Clutter Clutter and had resided in the Claysville area since 1941.Mrs. McKissick was a member of the Claysville United Methodist Church and also a member of the Claysville Tripoli Club for 22 years.She was a former employee of Curtis Pharmacy in Claysville, the 5 10 Store in Waynesburg, she and her late husband owned and operated a convenience store in East Finley Township from 1959 until closing 1979.Mrs. McKissick was a 1931 graduate of Nineveh High School where she was a member of the track team, receiving several medals and held the county record for the 50 yard dash.On July 15, 1935 she married Paul Douglas McKissick who died May 17, 1987.Surviving are two daughters, Kay Meinzer of Claysville with whom she made her home since 1988 and Connie Fidler of Dallas, W.Va.; one sister, Ines Minton of Waynesburg; eight grandchildren, Dick, Debbie, Jeffrey, Lisa and Susan Moore, Doug and David Walker, Christina Poggi; six step grandchildren, Janette Meinzer, Charlene and Amy Scherich, Fred Meinzer III, Denise Brownlee and Chris Meinzer; 23 great grandchildren; 25 step great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren and 1 step great great grandchild.Deceased in addition to her husband are a step grandson, James Earl (Jay) Fidler; one sister, Ivy Mankey; one brother, Von Clutter; a son in law, Fred Fidler. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Claysville United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rush Funeral Home, Inc. Rogersville, Pa.
