Elizabeth "Ruth" Long

Elizabeth “Ruth” Long, age 80, of West Alexander, PA, passed away at home on Friday, September, 16, 2016.

Born on September 4, 1936, in Bethany, W.V., she is the daughter of the late John Jay and Catherine (Scott) Atkinson.

Ruth graduated from West Alexander High School in 1954. She was employed as a Secretary for Pennsylvania and West Virginia Supply for 25 years. Ruth retired in 1998 after nine years of employment with Ross Mould where she made blue prints. She was a member of the Friendship Club of Burnsville, PA. Ruth also worked in the election office board for ten years in West Alexander.

She was a devoted member of the West Alexander United Methodist Church for 57 years. Ruth was involved in the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and previously a Trustee at the church. She was a secretary at the church for ten years and helped with several church functions.

She is survived by her children, William K. (Robyn) Long, Jr., of Washington, PA, Doreen P. (Brent) Butler, of Burlington, KY. and Judith M. (John) Wesolowski, of Wheeling, WV; nine grandchildren, Michael (Paula) Long, of Youngstown, OH, Mark (Danielle) Long, of Wellsburg, WV, Kristina Long, of Elizabeth, PA, Erica, Kristen and Lauryn Butler, of Burlington, KY., Phillip and Jeffrey Wesolowski, of Wheeling, WV, Seth Long, of Washington, PA; great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Autumn Long; sister, Mary F. King, of Washington, PA; brother, Donald E. Atkinson, of Salem, OH; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William K. Long, Sr.; brothers, John E. Atkinson and Roy L. Atkinson; sister-in-laws, Alice Atkinson, Norma Atkinson and Gladys Shaffer; brother-in-laws, Floyd King and Theodore Shaffer.

Friends and Family are welcome on Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 3-5 P.M. and 7-9 P.M. at the West Alexander United Methodist Church, 162 Main Street, West Alexander, PA, 15376, where a Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Paul Harman, officiating. Interment will follow at the West Alexander Cemetery.
