Elizabeth Ely (nee Ely) Fordyce, 103, formerly of Holbrook, Pa. died Monday, September 27, 2010 in the New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain, Ohio after an illness of only one month.She was born October 20, 1906 in Center Twp. (Oak Forest), Greene Co. Pa. a daughter of the late Robert Homer and Eva Jane Grove Ely.Mrs. Fordyce was a member of the former Willow Grove Baptist Church and a member and past president of the former W.C.T.U. in Waynesburg, Pa.She was a 1926 graduate of Center Twp. High School in Rogersville where she acted in school plays and won top awards for her readings and earned her teaching certification from Waynesburg (College) University.Mrs. Fordyce was a teacher at the former one room schoolhouse at Willow Grove where she taught all 8 gradesShe enjoyed reading her Bible, gardening and canning as long as her health permitted.On October 22, 1927 she married Silas Raymond Fordyce who died September 13, 1991.Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn, wife of Harold West and a son, Raymond, husband of Jean Fordyce both of Lorain, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Charles Kerr, Timothy, Chris and Gregg Fordyce, Tanya Pritchett, Melissa Snow and Deborah Mick; 19 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren.Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are a daughter, Audrienne Kerr who died Sept. 14, 1991; a granddaughter, Kim Kerr; three sisters, Callie Rees, Artie Cunningham and Ettice Johnson; six brothers, Edward, Woodrow, James, T. Wilbur, Charles and Robert Ely.Mrs. Fordyce was the last of her immediate family.
