Edward A. "Ted" Kimmel, 96, of Graysville, Pa. died at 5:45 am, Friday, May 12, 2006 in Breese Personal Care Home, Claysville, Pa. He was born December 18, 1909 in Somerset, Pa. a son of Peter Suder and Mae Braddock Kimmel and had resided in the West Finley area for several years prior to moving to Graysville in the summer of 1946.Mr. Kimmel was a 1929 graduate of Richhill High School where he was a member of the first football team and a member of the track team reaching the state level meet in the four man relay. He attended California State Teachers College where he received his teaching certification and later taught at Liberty School, a one room schoolhouse.He was a member and elder of the Unity Presbyterian Church in Graysville.Mr. Kimmel was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Army as a Technician Fifth Grade with Company L 112th Infantry in Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 4793 of Waynesburg, Pa. Prior to World War II, he was employed by Charles Tilton Store in Burnsville, Pa. Following the war, he was a co-owner of the former Staggers- Kimmel and Mitchell General Store in Graysville until retiring in 1974. Later he was co-owner of the Kimmel and Lindley Meat Shop for ten years prior to selling his interest in 1985 and continued working until the fall of 1990.Mr. Kimmel was a member and a former Fire Chief of Graysville V.F.D. and Past President of the Greene County Fireman's Association and was a former treasurer of the Fireman's Relief Association. He was a member of the former Graysville Sportsmans Club and was the first treasurer of the West Greene Senior Citizens. He was a past Grand Marshall of the Jacktown Fair Parade. He and his late wife were honored in 1985 as Citizens of the Year by Harvey's Grange 1044.He was an avid hunter until the age of 95 and enjoyed time spent with his family. On May 15, 1934 he married Mary Kathryn Tilton Kimmel who died on December 10, 1988.Surviving are two daughters, Barbara wife of Layton Wise of Washington, Pa. and Donna, wife of Ralph Dogil of Birmingham, Al.; four grandchildren, Marci Wise Witouski, Andrew Wise, Kristi Wise Roehm, and Joseph Dogil; 7 great grandchildren; one brother, Harry Kimmel of Canton, Oh.; and several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to his wife are a son, Paul E. Kimmel who died in infancy; two brothers, Byron and Robert Suder Kimmel; and one sister, Josephine Gildersleeve.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Unity Presbyterian Church, Graysville V.F.D or the West Greene Senior Citizens.
