Duane T. Swart, 79, of West Finley, Pa. died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 in Presbyterian Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pa. following complications from heart surgery.He was born November 26, 1932 in Richhill Twp. (Enon Vallley), Greene County, Pa. a son of the late Rolland James (Polly) and Mary Margaret Iams Swart and had resided in the West Finley area most of his life.Mr. Swart was a former member of the Enon Baptist Church and had been a member of the Windy Gap Presbyterian Church in West Finley all his adult life.He was a 1950 graduate of the former Claysville High School.Mr. Swart was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.He was last employed by Penn D.O.T. for approximately 25 years prior to retiring in 1992 as a Road Boss and Supervisor.Mr. Swart was a charter member and former fire chief of the West Finley V.F.D.He enjoyed farming, old tractors and raising beef cattle and the time that he was able to spend with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.On May 11, 2001 he married Sharon Faye Dooley who survives.Also surviving are four sons, Thomas, husband of Kathy Swart of McMurray, John, husband of Debbie Swart, Ronald, husband of Mary Swart, and Kenneth Swart, all of West Finley; two daughters, Mary Jane, wife of Tim Mounts of Claysville and Jeanne Vollmer of McMurray; five step children, Deana, wife of Wesley Parry of McDonald, Erin Moore, companion of Robert Adkins and Heather, wife of John Reeves, both of Washington, Renee, wife of David Jameson of Carlisle and Harry, husband of Michelle Moore of West Alexander; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild; two brothers, James, husband of Mary Lou Swart of Pinellas Park, Fl. and Ralph, husband of Nancy Swart of Pataskala, Ohio; three sisters, Margaret Irey and Elizabeth, wife of Dick Moats, both of Pinellas Park, Fl. and Ruth Ann, wife of Don Pagos of Michigan City, IN.; several nieces and nephews.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the West Finley V.F.D., 908 Majorsville Rd., West Finley, Pa. 15377.
