Douglas Irwin Knapp, age 66, of Claysville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at his sister Sandra’s home who he resided with the last ten months.

Born on October 21, 1949, in Washington, PA, he is the son of the late Walter Charles and Virginia Helen (King) Knapp.

Douglas was a 1967 graduate of McGuffey High School. He served his country for ten years between the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy and during the Vietnam War. In his military career he was a utility helicopter repairer and power generation equipment repairer. He was awarded the Army Services Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge M16 Rifle, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Marksman Badge .38 Caliber Pistol.

He resided in Maryland for 25 years but returned to his sister’s home in Claysville in 2015. He enjoyed model cars and watching Nascar. Dale Earnhart was always his favorite Nascar driver.

He is survived by his three children, Jay (Jennifer) Knapp, of Johnston City, IL., Dennis (Nicole) Knapp, of Marion, IL. and Jason (Amy) Knapp, of Woodlawn, T.N.; two sisters, Sandra (Bob) Carman, of Claysville, PA. and Susanne (Ernest) Donaldson, Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren, Jackie, Jenna, Mason, Casey, Sophia and Audeyanna Knapp.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Knapp in 1968 who was listed missing at sea from the USS Scorpion.

A private graveside service with full military honors will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, PA 15017.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15243.
