Dorothy Bates

Dorothy M. "Dot" Bates, 87, of Waynesburg, Pa. and formerly of Wind Ridge, Pa. died at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009 in the Greenery Special Care Center, Canonsburg, Pa.She was born September 17, 1921 in Masontown, Pa. a daughter of Charles Edward and Anna Mae Balsinger Bates.Miss Bates was a resident of the Wind Ridge (Richhill Twp.) area from 1950 and until moving to Waynesburg in 1999.She was a member of the Crabapple Community Church where she formerly served as song leader for over 40 years, a primary Sunday school teacher, and served as the church treasurer for over 20 years and also served as the church janitor for several years.Surviving are two sisters, Maggie, wife of Simon (Tim) Hillen of Waynesburg and Gladys, wife of Eugene Stoner of Canton, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.Deceased in addition to her parents are a sister, Mildred Matusky; 4 brothers, William A., Charles R., David C. and Donald Bates.
