Donald Shriver

Donald Shriver, 79, of Claysville, Pa. died at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in The Washington Hospital after being seriously ill since June. He was born in Greene Co. Pa. a son of the late Willis Duane and Margaret Opal Stollar Shriver. Mr. Shriver had resided in the Claysville and Buffalo Twp. areas most of his life. He was a member of the Taylorstown Christian Church. Mr. Shriver was a member of the Hunt-Kennedy American Legion Post 639 in Claysville. He enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and their activities, square dancing, traveling to tractor pull competition and camping. Mr. Shriver was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a corporal with the U.S. Army in the 1102nd SU, Boston, Mass. He was the co-owner, with his wife of the former Miller Sunoco service station in Claysville from 1968 to 1975, and was employed as a craneman by US Steel for 36 years prior to retiring in 1986, following retirement he was employed with Shriver Brothers Construction for approximately 12 years. He and his wife were the principal grounds keepers for the Taylorstown soccer fields, the East Buffalo Church, Pat Lutes and the Schwotzer farms. On October 15, 1960 he married Ehthel Mae "Peat" Butterfield who survives. Also surviving are a son, Don Alan, husband of Lisa Shriver of Washington; two daughters, Janet, wife of John McFall of Washington and Darla Hancher of Claysville; seven grandchildren, John Robert, Jackie Rae and Jennifer McFall, Kylie Erin Cummins, Kaleb Hancher, Braidon and Dustin Shriver; two great grandchildren, Kaylie and Cheyan Smith; three brothers, Joseph (Barney), husband of Donna Shriver of Avella, Gerald, husband of Ruth Shriver of Claysville and Larry, husband of Jeannie Shriver of Washington. Deceased in addition to his parents are three brothers, Willis D. Shriver, Jr.; Duane and Gene Shriver. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Taylorstown Christian Church, 32 Main St., Taylorstown, Pa. 15365.
