Darlene Kay Bates, age 68, of Waynesburg, PA, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.
Born March 6, 1949 in Canonsburg, PA, she is the daughter of the late Willard Ray and Wilma Jean (Hartzell) Ankrom.
Darlene graduated from West Greene High School in 1968. She resided in Greene County for the last 45 years. Darlene loved gardening, traveling and spending time with her family. She retired as a Quality Control Supervisor at Kyowa America Corporation in 2013. Her fur baby “Riley” never left her side. She enjoyed going to the different area casinos betting on dog races; especially the Mountaineer Racetrack and Wheeling Downs.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, William Bates, of Waynesburg, PA; her children, Chuck (Michelle) Dean, of Jefferson, William (Hannah) Bates, of Rock Hill, S.C; Michael (Amy) Bates, of Waynesburg, PA; seven grandchildren, Dustin, Ike, Brant, Noah, Jordan, Chelsea, and one on the way due in July; one great-grandson, Brody; sisters, Kimberly Ankrom, of Waynesburg, PA, Bonnie (Kevin) Egger, of Cecil, PA; brothers, Willard (Barb) Ankrom, of Jefferson, PA, Terry (Tina) Ankrom, of Kent, OH; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Marlene Lough; and two brothers, Timothy Ankrom and Robert Ankrom.
Friends will be received on Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC. 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy., Rogersville, PA 15359. (724) 499-5181 A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Carl Leipold, officiating. Burial will be held at Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, PA.
