CLYDE R. CHURCHPEARL HARBOR SURVIVOR Clyde R. Church, 88, of Nineveh, Pa. died at 7:37 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2008 in the Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, Pa. He was born December 27, 1919 in Waynesburg, Pa. a son of Robert Milliken and Goldie Helen Roupe Church. Mr. Church was member of the Friendship Community Baptist Church in Washington, Pa. He was a veteran of World War II and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He served with the U.S. Army as a Tech 5 with 671st Ordnance Ammunition Co. and was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Church was a graduate of the Pittsburgh Diesel Institute. He was last employed as a truck driver for the Fran McCullough Trucking of Washington for approximately 12 years prior to retiring in 1979. Mr. Church enjoyed hunting and reading as long as his health permitted, and also appreciated gospel and big band music. On October 29, 1949 he married Margaret Leona Smith who died March 18, 2008. Surviving is a daughter, Denise, wife of Thomas Chadwick of Nineveh; two step sons, John, husband of Betty Piatt of Washington and Richard Piatt of Ft. Morgan, Alabama; a brother, Richard, husband of Dorothy Church of Boise, Idaho; a sister, Betty Brownlee of Washington; eight grandchildren, Joshua and Brittney Chadwick, John, Mike, David, Debbie, Rick and Chad Piatt; three step-grandchildren Frank, Ed, and Leathe Bunnell and six great-grandchildren. Deceased are a step grandson, Matthew Piatt and a sister, Dorothy Edgar.
