Clifford W. Bissett, 86, of Morgantown, W.Va. and formerly of Graysville, Pa. died at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2007 in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. after being in failing health the past several months.He was born April 29, 1921 in New Freeport, Pa. a son of William H. and Florence Ethel Williams Bissett and had resided in Waynesburg and Washington, Pa. prior to moving to Graysville in 1978 where he resided until moving to Morgantown in 1997.Mr. Bissett was a 1939 graduate of Center Twp. High School and was a member and former elder of the Unity United Presbyterian Church in Graysville.He was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Army as a communications sergeant in Northern France and Normandy and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart and later attended the Officer Candidate School in Fort Belvoir, Va. and served during the Korean War with the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant in the 22d Armored Engineer Battalion. Mr. Bissett was a member of Hundred (W.Va.) American Legion Post #120.He was employed by the Alltel Corp. of Waynesburg beginning in 1945 as a lineman and until retiring as an outside plant engineer in 1986.On July 6, 1943 he married Martha Doris Mitchell Bissett who died on November 1, 2004.Surviving are two daughters, Dolores, wife of William Carroll of Washington, and Denise McCauley, with whom he shared his home; one granddaughter, Amy Smith of Rogersville, Pa.Deceased are one brother, William H. Bissett, Jr.; a sister, Helen Louise Hoffman; one grandson, David Wayne Smith.Mr. Bissett was the last of his immediate family.The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Unity U.P. Church, Graysville, Pa. 15337.
